Proteins are the structural components of all living organisms on the Earth. This section begins explores proteins starting from their simplest forms – amino acids, up to the functional and structural mechanisms regarding the macro-molecular scale of proteins and enzymes as a whole. We will explore, in detail, reactions involving amino acids and the functions of both enzymatic and non-enzymatic proteins within the body. Briefly, we discuss techniques to separate proteins in the lab.
The contents within this section closely follow the AAMC section: Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems: Content Category 1A.
